Surgical mole removal in Wrocław
Surgical mole removal excises pigmented moles, skin tags, warts and small skin lumps completely. Unlike laser methods, it allows the whole lesion to be sent for histopathology, which confirms the diagnosis. At Luna Clinic in Wrocław the procedure is performed by Dr Aleksandra Łuniewska under local anaesthetic; the mole can first be checked by dermatoscopy.

Surgical mole removal - what does the procedure involve?
Surgical mole removal is a minor but very precise procedure that at Luna Clinic we most often perform under local anaesthesia. It consists of excising a skin lesion - this may be a pigmented mole, a beauty spot, a wart or a small nodule. The indication may be both a suspicion of cancer and mechanical discomfort or aesthetic reasons. The removed lesion can be sent for histopathological examination - at the patient’s request or if the doctor makes such a decision.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. An appropriately planned incision line - made in accordance with the skin tension lines - means that the scar is thin and inconspicuous once healed.
Who is surgical mole removal for?
We recommend the procedure to anyone who has noticed a skin lesion that is growing, changing colour, itching or bleeding - but also to people for whom the mole simply bothers them aesthetically or mechanically (rubbing by clothing, jewellery, during shaving). Before removal we assess every lesion with a dermatoscope.
Indications for the procedure
Whether the procedure is advisable for you is ultimately decided by the doctor during the consultation.
- Pigmented moles of irregular shape, changing colour or size
- Skin lesions in areas exposed to mechanical injury (e.g. under a bra, at the waist, on the neck)
- Irritating moles that itch, bleed or grow
- A dermatological recommendation to remove the lesion with further histopathological assessment
- Aesthetic reasons - e.g. visible beauty spots on the face, décolletage, back
Contraindications
How to prepare for the procedure?
The procedure is always preceded by a qualification consultation with a plastic surgeon - we discuss expectations, examine the area to be operated on and establish an individual treatment plan. As standard, we order a full set of tests (blood count, coagulation, electrolytes, ECG for general anaesthesia) and, if necessary, additional specialist consultations.
- The procedure is preceded by a surgical consultation, during which we assess the nature of the lesion and determine whether histopathological examination is advisable.
- Laboratory tests are not required unless the doctor recommends otherwise (e.g. in the case of coagulation disorders).
- Please inform us about all medications taken - especially anticoagulants, aspirin and dietary supplements. They should be stopped at least 7 days before the procedure (with the treating doctor’s consent).
- On the day of the procedure: the skin should be clean, without creams or make-up - especially for lesions on the face.
- Thorough skin hygiene on the day of the procedure (no make-up, creams or lotions)
The mole removal procedure step by step
Recovery and post-procedure recommendations
- Slight swelling or redness may occur - they usually subside after 2-3 days
- Sleeping with the head elevated is recommended for the first few days
- We remove the sutures after 7-14 days - depending on the location and skin type
- The scar should be protected from the sun for a minimum of 6 months
- After complete healing we introduce scar massages and recommended products supporting its maturation
- We limit physical exertion for 2-3 days after the procedure, and for lesions on the limbs - up to 7 days
- Check-ups: suture removal (7-14 days), scar check (1 and 3 months)
Treatment effects
The result of the procedure is complete removal of the skin lesion together with a certain histopathological diagnosis. The scar, initially pink, matures over 6-12 months, gradually fading - with proper care (silicone products, sun protection) it becomes thin and barely noticeable.
Possible complications and risks
Like any surgical procedure, this one also carries a certain risk. It is reduced by careful qualification before the procedure and by following the aftercare recommendations. Possible complications include:
- Surgical mole removal is a minimally invasive procedure, but - like any surgical intervention - it involves a potential risk of complications. At Luna Clinic the procedures are performed in a sterile procedure suite, which significantly reduces the risk of adverse reactions.
Frequently asked questions
Is the procedure painful?
No. We perform the procedure under local anaesthesia - the patient may feel only slight pressure during the administration of the anaesthetic.
Does every lesion have to be sent for histopathological examination?
No. We perform the examination on a clear indication from the doctor or if the patient expresses such a wish. For lesions of a suspicious nature, histopathology is mandatory.
Will there be a scar?
Yes - every surgical intervention leaves a mark. However, thanks to precise suturing and individual post-procedure recommendations, the scar is usually thin and inconspicuous over time.
How long does the procedure itself take?
Usually 15 to 30 minutes - depending on the size and location of the lesion.
Can several lesions be removed during one visit?
Yes, if there are no contraindications - several moles can be removed in one procedure.
When can I return to normal activity?
To everyday activities usually the next day. It is worth limiting physical exertion, stretching or pressure on the treated area for a few days - according to the doctor’s recommendations.
Can I drive after the procedure?
Yes - provided the lesion was not removed from the limbs or other areas affecting freedom of movement.
Do I have to fast?
No. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia - there is no need to skip meals.
Can I sunbathe after the procedure?
No. For a minimum of 6 months the site of the mole removal should be protected from the sun - to avoid discolouration.
Can every mole be removed surgically?
The vast majority, yes. Qualification is decided by the surgeon after examining the lesion - the location, size and nature of the mole affect the technique of the procedure.
Is histopathological examination always performed after mole removal?
Yes - at Luna Clinic we send every excised lesion for histopathological assessment. This is a standard of oncological safety.
Surgical mole removal in Wrocław: how much does it cost?
