Breast augmentation with implants - what does the procedure involve?
Breast augmentation using silicone implants is a surgical procedure that allows a fuller, more feminine bust shape to be achieved. At Luna Clinic we also perform augmentation for MtF transgender people after a legal change of gender marker, treating it as an important element of the gender-affirmation process. The operation helps to achieve a figure consistent with gender identity, improving psychological comfort and self-esteem.
In MtF people the chest is usually wider and the distance between the breasts greater - which is why we plan the choice of implants (base width, projection) and the plane in which they are placed particularly carefully, in order to achieve a natural, feminine cleavage. We recommend at least 12 months of stable hormone therapy before the procedure - HRT develops the person’s own gland and improves the tissue coverage of the implant.

How to prepare for the procedure?
The procedure is always preceded by a qualification consultation with a plastic surgeon - we discuss expectations, examine the area to be operated on and establish an individual treatment plan. As standard, we order a full set of tests (blood count, coagulation, electrolytes, ECG for general anaesthesia) and, if necessary, additional specialist consultations.

Recovery and post-procedure recommendations
- Wearing a compression bra for at least 6-8 weeks
- Avoiding physical exertion for 4-6 weeks
- No sleeping on the stomach for several weeks
- Protecting the scars from the sun for 6 months
- Scar massage and the use of products that aid healing - according to the doctor’s recommendations
- Check-ups after 1, 3, 6 and 12 months

Like any surgical procedure, this one also carries a certain risk. It is reduced by careful qualification before the procedure and by following the aftercare recommendations. Possible complications include:

Is the procedure painful?
No - it is performed under general anaesthesia. After the operation the pain is controlled with medication.
Do the implants need to be replaced?
There is no obligation to replace them routinely. Implants (e.g. Mentor) have a lifetime warranty on shell integrity. Replacement is only necessary in the case of complications or the patient’s decision to change the size.
Will the scars be visible?
The scars are discreet, usually in the inframammary fold.
When can I return to work?
To office work after about 7 days. Heavy physical work - after 4-6 weeks.
Can I choose the shape and size of the implant?
Yes - it is selected individually during the consultation.
Do you need to have a legal change of gender?
Yes - in our clinic we qualify only people with a formal change of gender marker.

It requires careful planning (a wider implant base, work on the spacing of the breasts), but modern implants and techniques make it possible to achieve a fully feminine, natural bust.
