01
About the treatment

Breast augmentation - what does the procedure involve?

Breast augmentation with implants is one of the most frequently performed operations in plastic surgery. The procedure consists in placing breast implants - anatomical or round - under the breast gland or the pectoralis major muscle. The aim is to achieve a fuller shape, symmetry and volume of the bust. The procedure is performed while respecting the principles of body proportion and natural aesthetics.

The choice of implant (shape, projection, volume) and its placement (under the muscle, under the gland or dual plane) are the most important decisions of the surgical plan - we make them together with the patient at the consultation, with sizer fittings and an analysis of chest proportions.

02
Indications

Indications for the procedure

Whether the procedure is advisable for you is ultimately decided by the doctor during the consultation.

  • A small or underdeveloped bust
  • Loss of breast volume after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight reduction
  • Breast asymmetry
  • Improvement of body proportions and self-esteem
  • A desire to reshape the breasts
03

Contraindications

Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Uncontrolled chronic diseases (diabetes, heart disease)
Skin or systemic infections
Autoimmune diseases - they require individual qualification
Inadequate expectations regarding the aesthetic result
Mental disorders requiring pre-operative therapy
04
Preparation

How to prepare for the procedure?

The procedure is always preceded by a qualification consultation with a plastic surgeon - we discuss expectations, examine the area to be operated on and establish an individual treatment plan. As standard, we order a full set of tests (blood count, coagulation, electrolytes, ECG for general anaesthesia) and, if necessary, additional specialist consultations.

  • The procedure takes about 1.5 hours and is performed under general anaesthesia.
  • The surgeon makes a small incision (most often in the inframammary fold), through which the implant is placed - under the gland or the muscle, depending on the anatomical build.
  • We use only modern implants with quality certificates, selected individually for the patient’s needs
  • After the procedure, sutures and dressings are applied.
  • The medical team looks after the patient until she goes home, and the doctor decides when she is ready to leave.

The breast-augmentation procedure step by step

1Consultation and implant selectionchest measurements, fittings and a discussion of expectations make it possible to choose the optimal implant and the plane of its placement.
2Anaesthesia generalthe operation takes about 1-1.5 hours.
3Incision in the inframammary foldthe most common, safest access - the scar is hidden in the natural fold under the breast.
4Creating the pocket and placing the implantthe implant is placed under the pectoralis major muscle, under the gland or using the dual-plane technique - according to the plan.
5Symmetry check and suturingafter the symmetry is assessed, the wounds are closed in layers with cosmetic sutures; the patient wears a post-operative bra (for about 6 weeks).
06
Recovery

Recovery and post-procedure recommendations

  • A specialist compression bra should be worn for 6 weeks
  • Avoid raising the arms, physical exertion and sleeping on the stomach
  • No sun exposure of the scars for at least 6 months
  • The sutures are removed after about 10-14 days
  • Massages and scar products are introduced after the wound has healed - according to the surgeon’s recommendation
  • Check-ups: after 2 weeks, 1, 3, 6 and 12 months

Treatment effects

The result of breast augmentation is a fuller, symmetrical and proportional bust with a natural shape and softness - especially when the implant is placed under the muscle. The full effect is visible after 3-6 months, when the implants “settle” and the swelling subsides. Modern implants are durable and do not require routine replacement.

The result of the procedure is a fuller, symmetrical and more proportional bust.

At Luna Clinic we make sure the result is natural and matched to the patient’s figure.

The implants are durable - they do not require routine replacement every few years. Their lifespan depends on the quality of the product and the body’s reaction.

The full effect is visible 3-6 months after the operation, when the swelling disappears and the tissues settle.

Possible complications and risks

Like any surgical procedure, this one also carries a certain risk. It is reduced by careful qualification before the procedure and by following the aftercare recommendations. Possible complications include:

  • Haematoma or bleeding requiring drainage
  • Infection requiring antibiotic therapy
  • Temporary or rarely permanent sensory disturbances in the operated area
  • Hypertrophic or discoloured scars
  • Asymmetry requiring correction
  • Longer-lasting swelling or bruising
  • An unsatisfactory aesthetic result requiring possible re-operation

Frequently asked questions

Does the procedure hurt?

No - we perform the procedure under general anaesthesia. After the operation we use effective pain relief.

Where will the scars be?

Most often in the inframammary fold - they are short and usually barely visible after healing.

Do the implants need to be replaced?

There is no need for replacement after a specific time, as long as there are no signs of damage or abnormalities.

Can I breastfeed after the procedure?

Yes - in most cases the procedure does not affect the ability to breastfeed.

How long does recovery take?

You can return to office work after 7-10 days. Full physical activity is possible after 6 weeks.

Is the effect immediate?

It is visible immediately, but the final shape and position of the breasts stabilises after a few months.

Are the implants safe?

Yes - we use only certified implants from reputable manufacturers.

What implant size should I choose?

The decision is made together with the surgeon - based on body build, proportions and the patient’s expectations.

Can the procedure be combined with a breast lift?

Yes - we often combine augmentation with implants and a breast lift in one stage.

Are the implants palpable under the skin?

No - especially when placed under the muscle, the effect is very natural to the touch as well.

Anatomical or round implants - which to choose?

Anatomical (teardrop) implants give a subtle, natural profile; round ones - a fuller upper pole of the breast. The choice depends on the chest build, the amount of the person’s own tissue and the desired effect - we will advise you at the consultation.

Can I breastfeed after breast augmentation?

Yes - access through the inframammary fold and placing the implant under the muscle do not damage the gland or the milk ducts.

Do the implants make breast examinations more difficult?

They do not make them impossible - ultrasound and mammography are performed using techniques adapted to implants. Regular prevention remains fully possible and necessary.

Breast augmentation in Wrocław: how much does it cost?

Our price list starts at PLN 24,000 for breast augmentation with implants. The cost depends on the implants, technique and any lift; the exact quote follows the surgical consultation (PLN 300).

Is it covered by the NFZ (Polish public health insurance)?

Luna Clinic treats patients privately. Cosmetic breast augmentation is not funded by the NFZ (Polish public health insurance); public funding covers reconstructive surgery, such as rebuilding a breast after mastectomy for cancer.

When can I go back to work?

Most patients return to office work after about 7-10 days, and full physical activity is possible after 6 weeks. Manual work or jobs that involve lifting your arms need longer off - you will receive written advice.

Breast augmentation: price and consultation

Breast augmentation with implants costs from PLN 24,000 at Luna Clinic. The final amount depends on the type and make of implant, its position (under or over the muscle), the length of the operation and whether augmentation is combined with a lift. If the breasts are clearly sagging, an implant alone will not lift the nipples - then we consider a breast lift with an implant. You will receive a written quote after the surgical consultation (PLN 300); instalment options are described in the price list.
