Indications
Treatment of hyperhidrosis is indicated for people who struggle with excessive sweat production in the underarm area, which causes discomfort and difficulty in daily functioning. Botulinum toxin injections block the action of the sweat glands, significantly reducing the amount of sweat produced. The effect lasts from 6 to 12 months, improving the patient’s quality of life.
The treatment is recommended for patients suffering from excessive sweating of the hands, which can hinder social contacts and work. Botulinum toxin works by temporarily blocking the nerve signals to the sweat glands, reducing sweat production. After the treatment the hands become dry and comfortable in everyday use.
Treatment of hyperhidrosis is also indicated for excessive sweating of the feet, which can lead to problems such as unpleasant odour or skin infections. Botulinum toxin injections effectively reduce the activity of the sweat glands in this area. The effect improves hygiene and comfort of life.
The treatment is indicated for people who experience excessive sweating in the forehead area, which can be troublesome in professional or social life. Botulinum toxin reduces the activity of the sweat glands, ensuring dry and fresh skin. It is a solution particularly valued by people who want to feel confident in public situations.
Course of treatment
Treatment of hyperhidrosis most often involves the use of botulinum toxin, which inhibits the action of the sweat glands by blocking the nerve impulses responsible for their activity. The procedure begins by locating the areas of excessive sweating using an iodine-starch test, which allows the injection sites to be precisely determined. The whole procedure takes about 20-30 minutes, and the effect lasts from 6 to 12 months.
Benefits
The treatment provides a significant reduction in sweating, improving comfort of life and increasing the patient’s self-confidence. The effect is visible within a few days of the treatment and lasts for many months, allowing normal functioning in social and professional situations. Moreover, the therapy is safe and requires no recovery period, so the patient can return to daily activities almost immediately.
Who can benefit from hyperhidrosis treatment?
The treatment is aimed at people who struggle with excessive sweating, especially in areas such as the hands, feet, underarms or face. The therapy is particularly recommended when other methods, such as antiperspirants or pharmacotherapy, have proved ineffective. Treatment of hyperhidrosis not only helps solve the health problem but also significantly improves the patient’s quality of life and well-being, eliminating discomfort in everyday interactions.
Frequently asked questions
How does hyperhidrosis treatment with botulinum toxin work?
Botulinum toxin blocks the nerve endings that stimulate the sweat glands, so that sweat production in the treated area drops by as much as 80-90%. It is the most effective minimally invasive method of treating hyperhidrosis.
How long does the effect of the procedure last?
The effect lasts from 6 to 12 months - for most patients one treatment is enough for the whole season. The injections can be safely repeated once sweating returns.
Which areas can be treated for hyperhidrosis?
Most often the underarms, but we also effectively treat the hands, feet and forehead. The doctor adjusts the dose and injection technique to the area and severity of the problem.
Does the hyperhidrosis treatment hurt?
We anaesthetise the underarms with cream, and the injections are performed with a very fine needle - discomfort is minor. The hands and feet are more sensitive, so we use more thorough anaesthesia there.
How long does the procedure take and when will I see the effect?
The procedure takes about 30 minutes. A reduction in sweating is felt after 2-4 days, and the full effect develops within 2 weeks.
Will sweat start to be produced elsewhere?
Compensatory sweating in other areas is rare and usually mild. The blocked glands make up a small percentage of all the body’s sweat glands, so thermoregulation remains normal.
How to prepare for the procedure?
Shave the underarms 1-2 days before the visit, come without antiperspirant, stop alcohol for 24-48 hours and inform the doctor about the medications you take. Qualification takes place directly before the procedure.
What are the recommendations after hyperhidrosis treatment?
For 24 hours do not use antiperspirants; for 48 hours avoid the sauna, hot baths and intense exertion. You return to work and everyday activities right away.
Is hyperhidrosis treatment safe?
Yes - it is a registered medical indication for botulinum toxin, used for years. Performed by a doctor with the appropriate qualification, the treatment carries minimal risk of side effects.
When is the best time to have the procedure?
Best in spring, before the summer season - the effect will then cover the warmest months. However, the procedure can be performed at any time of year.
What are the contraindications to the procedure?
Pregnancy and breastfeeding, neuromuscular diseases, an active skin infection at the injection site, an allergy to the product’s ingredients. Doubts are resolved by the doctor during the consultation.
