Nasal tip correction in Wrocław

Nasal tip correction (tip plasty) reshapes only the cartilaginous part of the nose - the tip - without touching the bone. It helps when the tip is drooping, broad, upturned or asymmetrical while the bridge of the nose is fine. At Luna Clinic in Wrocław the procedure is performed by Dr Aleksandra Łuniewska, usually under local anaesthetic.

About the treatment

Nasal tip correction - what does the procedure involve?

Nasal tip correction (tip plasty) is a surgical procedure aimed at modelling and refining the shape of the end of the nose. At Luna Clinic we most often perform this procedure under local anaesthesia. The procedure allows subtle improvement of the nose’s proportions, reduction of its tip, correction of asymmetry or drooping. The result is a more harmonious facial profile while maintaining a natural appearance.

Limiting the scope to the tip means a shorter procedure, less swelling and faster recovery than a full rhinoplasty - with no plaster dressing or only a short period of it. We model the alar cartilages with shaping sutures and precise resection.

  • Improving the results of previous nose operations

04
Preparation

How to prepare for the procedure?

The procedure is always preceded by a qualification consultation with a plastic surgeon - we discuss expectations, examine the area to be operated on and establish an individual treatment plan. As standard, we order a full set of tests (blood count, coagulation, electrolytes, ECG for general anaesthesia) and, if necessary, additional specialist consultations.

  • Consultation with a plastic surgeon - discussing indications and expectations
  • Laboratory tests
  • Stopping anticoagulant medications at least 14 days before the operation (after consulting a doctor)
  • Avoiding alcohol and smoking for a minimum of 14 days before the procedure - for better healing
  • Thorough facial-skin hygiene on the day of the procedure (no make-up, creams or lotions)

2Anaesthesialocal with sedation or general; the procedure takes 60-90 minutes.
3Closed or open accessthe incisions are made inside the nostrils (closed technique) or with a small incision on the columella (open technique - for larger corrections).
4Modelling the tip cartilagesthe alar cartilages are modelled with shaping sutures, partial resection or a cartilage graft - according to the plan.
5Suturing and tapingthe wounds are closed with fine sutures, and the nasal tip is stabilised with modelling tapes for about 7 days.

Recovery

Recovery and post-procedure recommendations

  • Swelling and bruising are natural and diminish within 2-4 weeks
  • Sleeping with the head elevated is recommended for the first few days
  • Dressings and sutures cared for according to the doctor’s recommendations
  • Sutures are usually removed after 7-14 days
  • Avoiding intense physical exertion and bending over for a minimum of 4-6 weeks
  • No sunbathing or use of a solarium for a minimum of 6 months - SPF 50 protection is necessary
  • After full healing, scar massages and products supporting their maturation may be introduced - according to the doctor’s recommendation
  • Check-ups: about 1 month after the procedure, then after 3, 6 and 12 months

Treatment effects

The result of nasal tip correction is a neater, raised and symmetrical tip, harmoniously matched to the rest of the nose and face. The initial effect is visible after the tapes are removed, and the final one after the tip swelling subsides, which takes 6-12 months (the nasal tip heals the longest).

The procedure improves the proportions of the nose and gives the tip a more delicate, more defined appearance. The effect is permanent but natural - without being overdone. The results are best assessed after full healing and the subsiding of the swelling, usually after about 3-6 months.

Possible complications and risks

Like any surgical procedure, this one also carries a certain risk. It is reduced by careful qualification before the procedure and by following the aftercare recommendations. Possible complications include:

  • Haematoma or bleeding requiring drainage
  • Infection requiring antibiotic therapy
  • Temporary or rarely permanent sensory disturbances in the face or auricle
  • Hypertrophic or discoloured scars
  • Asymmetry requiring correction
  • Longer-lasting swelling or bruising
  • An unsatisfactory aesthetic result requiring possible re-operation

Frequently asked questions

Is the procedure painful?

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia - the patient feels no pain.

Will I have scars?

With the open technique the scar on the columella is minimal and usually almost invisible after healing.

How long does the swelling last?

The largest swelling passes in 2-3 weeks. Full results are visible after a few months.

Is the effect permanent?

Yes - the cartilage correction has a lasting effect, although the facial ageing process continues.

When can I return to work?

Office work - usually after a few days.

Can I drive after the procedure?

Yes - if there was no sedation and you feel comfortable.

How long do I have to avoid sports?

A minimum of 2-3 weeks, then gradual introduction of activity.

Is the procedure only for women?

No - we also perform nasal tip correction on men.

Can it be combined with another procedure?

Yes - e.g. with eyelid surgery or a facelift.

When can I go home after nasal tip correction?

The doctor decides after the procedure, once they have assessed how you are feeling. If you were given sedation, arrange for someone to take you home.

Does nasal tip correction require breaking bones?

No - the procedure concerns only the cartilages. This is precisely what distinguishes tip plasty from a full rhinoplasty and results in an easier recovery.

Do I wear a plaster after the procedure?

Usually modelling tapes for about 7 days are enough; a plaster is not needed, because the bony part of the nose remains intact.
