Navel reconstruction in Wrocław
Navel reconstruction (umbilicoplasty) rebuilds or reshapes a belly button changed by abdominal surgery, a hernia, pregnancy or piercing. Although small, the navel clearly affects how the whole abdomen looks. At Luna Clinic in Wrocław the procedure is performed by Dr Aleksandra Łuniewska - on its own or as part of a tummy tuck.

Navel reconstruction - what does the procedure involve?
Navel reconstruction is a precise surgical procedure aimed at recreating the natural shape and position of the navel, most often after childbirth, hernias, previous operations or abdominoplasty. Although the navel is a small structure, its appearance is of great aesthetic importance for many patients - which is why at Luna Clinic we treat this procedure with full care.
The procedure consists of modelling a natural-looking hollow from local skin flaps. We perform it on its own under local anaesthesia or as part of a tummy tuck.
Indications for the procedure
Whether the procedure is advisable for you is ultimately decided by the doctor during the consultation.
- Absence of the navel after surgical procedures (e.g. hernia, tummy tuck)
- Deformation of the navel after pregnancy, childbirth or a caesarean section
- Reshaping of the navel after bariatric operations or massive weight loss
- Congenital deformation or asymmetry of the navel
- Dissatisfaction with the appearance of the navel after previous procedures
Contraindications
How to prepare for the procedure?
The procedure is always preceded by a qualification consultation with a plastic surgeon - we discuss expectations, examine the area to be operated on and establish an individual treatment plan. As standard, we order a full set of tests (blood count, coagulation, electrolytes, ECG for general anaesthesia) and, if necessary, additional specialist consultations.
- Consultation with a plastic surgeon, discussion of the appearance expected by the patient
- If needed, laboratory tests (blood count, coagulation)
- Stopping anticoagulant medications 7 days before the operation (after consulting a doctor)
- Avoiding alcohol and cigarettes for at least 2 weeks before the procedure
- On the day of the operation: thorough abdominal hygiene, no lotions or make-up

Recovery and post-procedure recommendations
- Slight swelling and bruising usually persist for up to 1-2 weeks
- A dressing should be worn for a few days - changed according to the doctor’s recommendations
- Avoiding physical exertion for a minimum of 2-3 weeks
- No sunbathing or use of a solarium for 6 months
- Scar massage and products supporting its maturation - according to the doctor’s recommendation
- Mandatory check-ups: after 7-14 days, then after 1, 3 and 6 months
Treatment effects
The result of navel reconstruction is a natural-looking, proportional navel with a lasting hollow. The procedure restores the aesthetics of the abdomen exposed at the beach or pool - and often ends the patient’s years-long complex.
Possible complications and risks
Like any surgical procedure, this one also carries a certain risk. It is reduced by careful qualification before the procedure and by following the aftercare recommendations. Possible complications include:
- Haematoma or infection
- Scar hypertrophy or discolouration
- Navel asymmetry
- An unsatisfactory aesthetic result
- Slight necrosis of the navel edges (very rare)
Frequently asked questions
Does the procedure hurt?
No. It is performed under local or general anaesthesia. Complaints after the procedure are minor and well controlled.
How long does recovery take?
You can return to office work after a few days. Physical exertion should be avoided for about 2-3 weeks.
Will the navel look natural?
Yes - that is the main goal of the procedure. We use techniques that allow the shape and depth to be recreated as close as possible to a natural appearance.
Will the scar be visible?
The scar is very small and placed in a way that makes it almost invisible once healed.
Is the effect permanent?
Yes. If there are no sudden changes in body weight or further pregnancies, the effect remains stable.
Can the procedure be combined with abdominoplasty?
Yes - we very often perform navel reconstruction as part of a tummy tuck.
Can the procedure be performed after a caesarean section?
Yes, after the postpartum period ends and the caesarean scar has fully healed.
Is general anaesthesia necessary?
No. In most cases local anaesthesia is sufficient.
What does the navel look like without reconstruction?
It is usually flattened, asymmetrical or not visible at all - which for many patients is a major aesthetic problem.
Can the procedure also be performed on men?
Yes - in specific cases, e.g. after major weight loss.
Does the new navel look natural?
Yes - the goal of umbilicoplasty is an oval, vertically oriented hollow with subtle shading, indistinguishable from a natural navel.
Can the procedure be performed after an umbilical hernia?
Yes - we often combine navel reconstruction with umbilical-hernia repair under a single anaesthesia.
