Indications

Indications

Hyperhidrosis in the underarm area, which causes wet patches on clothes and an unpleasant odour, is an indication for treatment. Treatments using botulinum toxin effectively reduce the activity of the sweat glands, improving the comfort of everyday life. The effect lasts from 6 to 12 months.

Excessive sweating of the hands, hindering everyday activities such as working at a computer or shaking hands, is an indication for therapy. Botulinum toxin injections or iontophoresis help limit sweat production in this area, improving the patient’s quality of life.

Healthy people, without contraindications to therapy, looking for a lasting solution to the problem.

Patients with the problem of excessive sweating of the feet, which can lead to an unpleasant odour and frequent fungal infections, should consider treatment. Treatments such as botulinum toxin injections or appropriate pharmacotherapy effectively reduce the activity of the sweat glands.

Frequently asked questions

What is hyperhidrosis and where does it come from?

Hyperhidrosis is sweat production exceeding the needs of thermoregulation. The primary form has a genetic basis and worsens under stress; the secondary form may accompany, among others, thyroid diseases - which is why diagnosis is important.

How is hyperhidrosis treated at Luna Clinic?

The most effective method is injecting the area with botulinum toxin, which blocks nerve conduction to the sweat glands. The treatment takes about 30 minutes and is performed under local anaesthesia.

How long does the effect of botulinum toxin treatment last?

The reduction in sweating usually lasts from 6 to 12 months. The treatment can be safely repeated, and in many patients subsequent injections work longer.

Which areas of the body can be treated?

Most often the underarms, but treatment of the hands, feet and forehead is also effective. The doctor selects the area and dose of the product individually during the consultation.

Does the hyperhidrosis treatment hurt?

The discomfort is minor - we use a local anaesthetic cream, and the injections are performed with a very fine needle. The area of the hands and feet is more sensitive, so we anaesthetise it more thoroughly.

When does the effect of the treatment appear?

The first reduction in sweating is felt after 2-4 days, and the full effect develops within 2 weeks after the injections.

How to prepare for the procedure?

24-48 hours before the treatment stop alcohol, shave the underarms the day before and come without antiperspirant. Inform the doctor about the medications you take, especially blood-thinners.

Are there contraindications to hyperhidrosis treatment?

Yes - including pregnancy and breastfeeding, myasthenia and other neuromuscular diseases, an active skin infection at the injection site and an allergy to the product’s ingredients. Qualification is carried out by a doctor.

Does hyperhidrosis require prior diagnostics?

With a sudden onset, night sweating or general symptoms, the doctor may order tests to rule out secondary causes, e.g. hormonal disorders. Typical primary hyperhidrosis does not require extensive tests.

Can the treatment be performed in summer?

Yes - hyperhidrosis treatment is independent of the season, and before the summer season it enjoys the greatest interest. It is worth planning the injections 2-3 weeks before a holiday.

How often can the treatment be repeated?

The injections are repeated after sweating returns, usually once every 6-12 months. There is no limit to the total number of treatments - the therapy can be continued for years.

How much does hyperhidrosis treatment cost in Wrocław?

Dermatological treatment is quoted individually; botulinum toxin costs PLN 1,400 (underarms) and PLN 1,200 (feet or hands) in our price list.

Contraindications

Contraindications

A consultation has no significant contraindications. Any limitations concern selected treatment methods (e.g. laser vs. a tan, isotretinoin vs. pregnancy) - we will discuss them once a diagnosis is established.

07

How to prepare?

It is worth bringing to the visit:

  • a list of medications and supplements taken
  • existing documentation and test results
  • a list of questions - nothing should slip your mind
  • for skin lesions: do not cover them with make-up or irritate them before the visit
08
Course of the procedure

How does the procedure go?

After diagnostics we select the method: topical treatment, iontophoresis or botulinum toxin (effect 6-10 months).
