Nipple correction

Nipple correction is a procedure to change the size, shape or position of the nipples and areolas - e.g. reducing overly large or protruding nipples, reducing the diameter of the areolas or correcting inverted nipples. In gender-affirming surgery it corrects the nipples to proportions consistent with the felt gender.

01
About the treatment

Nipple correction - what does the procedure involve?

Nipple correction

It is a short, precise procedure performed most often under local anaesthesia - on its own or as a complement to breast surgery (mastectomy, augmentation, lift). We choose the techniques so as to preserve, where possible, sensation and the patency of the milk ducts.

02
Indications

Indications for the procedure

Whether the procedure is advisable for you is ultimately decided by the doctor during the consultation.

  • An overly large or protruding nipple
  • An overly large or uneven areola
  • Asymmetry of the nipples or areolas
  • Scars from earlier operations (e.g. mastectomy)
  • Nipple correction after gender change - e.g. feminisation or masculinisation
  • Aesthetic or psychological discomfort related to the appearance of the breasts
03

Contraindications

Active skin infections in the operated area
Uncompensated general diseases (e.g. diabetes)
Blood clotting disorders
Pregnancy and breastfeeding (requires individual qualification)
Unrealistic expectations regarding the result
04
Preparation

How to prepare for the procedure?

The procedure is always preceded by a qualification consultation with a plastic surgeon - we discuss expectations, examine the area to be operated on and establish an individual treatment plan. As standard, we order a full set of tests (blood count, coagulation, electrolytes, ECG for general anaesthesia) and, if necessary, additional specialist consultations.

  • Surgical consultation with an assessment of indications
  • Laboratory tests
  • Stopping anticoagulant medications at least 14 days before the operation (after consulting a doctor)
  • Avoiding alcohol and cigarette smoking for at least 14 days before the procedure - for better healing
  • Thorough skin hygiene on the day of the procedure (no make-up, creams or lotions)

4Areola correction (optional)reducing the diameter of the areola with a periareolar incision, with the scar hidden at the pigment border.
5Cosmetic suturingvery fine sutures, often absorbable; a protective dressing for a few days.
06
Recovery

Recovery and post-procedure recommendations

  • Slight bruising and swelling are possible for a few days
  • The sutures are usually removed after 7-14 days
  • Dressings should be changed according to the doctor’s recommendation
  • Avoiding pressure and intense chest movement for about 2 weeks
  • Protect the scars from the sun for at least 6 months
  • Compulsory check-ups: about 1 month after the procedure, then after 3, 6 and 12 months

Treatment effects

The result of nipple correction is proportional, symmetrical nipples and areolas with a natural appearance. Scars hidden at the base of the nipple or at the areola border are practically invisible after healing. The effect is permanent.

Frequently asked questions

Is the procedure painful?

No - it is performed under local or general anaesthesia. After the procedure the pain is minimal and controlled with medication.

Do scars remain?

Yes, every surgical intervention leaves a mark, but the scars are usually thin and barely visible.

Is the effect permanent?

Yes - the effect is permanent, but the ageing and healing process can affect the appearance over time.

When can I return to work?

To office work usually after a few days, to physical activity - after about 2 weeks.

Can only the areola be reduced?

Yes - a reduction of the areola diameter alone can be performed.

Can the procedure be done with previous scars?

Yes - we often perform corrections of scars from earlier operations, e.g. mastectomy.

Is the procedure suitable for transgender people?

Yes - we adapt the shape and size of the nipples to the patient’s expectations, e.g. feminisation or masculinisation.

Is general anaesthesia necessary?

Not always - local anaesthesia is often sufficient.

How long does the swelling last?

It usually subsides within a few days to 2 weeks.

Can it be combined with other procedures?

Yes - e.g. with breast augmentation using implants or lipofilling.

Does nipple correction affect sensation?

Nerve-sparing techniques usually allow sensation to be preserved, although temporary disturbances during healing are normal. For grade III inverted-nipple correction we discuss the risk individually.

Can the procedure be done under local anaesthesia during a break from work?

Yes - standalone nipple correction is an outpatient procedure; you can return to office work the next day.

What does nipple correction involve?

Nipple correction is a procedure in the field of plastic surgery. At Luna Clinic, every treatment plan is created individually - we start with a thorough consultation and qualification, during which the doctor discusses expectations, assesses the starting situation and selects the scope and technique of the procedure. Thanks to this, nipple correction is safe, predictable and tailored to the anatomy and real needs of the specific person. We focus on a natural rather than artificial effect - so that the result emphasises individual beauty and remains in harmony with the rest of the figure or facial features. You will find a full, detailed description of the method in the upper part of this page.

nipple correction - who is it for? Indications and qualification

The best way to answer whether nipple correction is advisable in your case is during a consultation. The doctor always decides on qualification after an examination - we take into account the state of health, expectations and the real possibilities of the given method. If the procedure is not needed or safe at the moment, we will say so directly and suggest a sensible alternative. Such an honest conversation is the basis of a good decision and satisfaction with the result - which is why we never persuade anyone into unnecessary procedures.

How does the procedure go?

The course is planned to take maximum care of your comfort and safety. We work in comfortable conditions that meet all standards, and an experienced team oversees the process. All recommendations - preparation, contraindications and post-procedure conduct - are discussed individually and also provided in writing, so that nipple correction proceeds calmly, predictably and without surprises.

Effects and durability - nipple correction before and after

The effects that nipple correction provides are always assessed individually. A natural, harmonious refreshment of appearance or an improvement of proportions is the goal we strive for with every patient. “Before and after” transformations are best viewed in our results gallery - they show the real outcomes of our work. Remember that the durability and quality of the effect are also influenced by lifestyle, care and consistent adherence to post-procedure recommendations.

Recovery and post-procedure recommendations

Recovery goes most smoothly when you follow the recommendations closely. After the procedure you remain under the clinic’s care - in the first days, contact with a doctor is available, and we schedule follow-up visits until full healing and assessment of the effect. You receive clear instructions on care, activity and any supporting products in writing, so you know exactly what to expect at each stage of returning to form.

Safety, experience and trust

Safety is an absolute priority for us. Nipple correction is performed by Dr Aleksandra Łuniewska - a plastic surgery specialist, with care for safety and an individual approach to the patient. Careful qualification, work in appropriate conditions and the team’s experience allow us to minimise risk and achieve repeatable, aesthetic results. In the field of plastic surgery, not only technique matters, but also aesthetic sense and trust between patient and doctor - and that is exactly what we build Luna Clinic on every day.

Why Luna Clinic?

Luna Clinic is an intimate, boutique clinic where not only the result matters, but also comfort, discretion and a sense of safety. We carry out nipple correction with attention to every detail - from the first conversation, through the procedure itself, to post-procedure care. Patients choose us for the experience of our specialists, the individual approach and the natural, harmonious results. It matters to us that every person feels heard and well informed, which is why we present the real possibilities and limitations of the given method and choose the best solution together.

How to prepare for the procedure?

Good preparation translates directly into the course and the effect. Before nipple correction we conduct a qualification consultation, order tests if necessary and discuss the recommendations in detail - including which agents, stimulants or activities to avoid in the days preceding the procedure. You receive all the guidance clearly and in writing, and our team remains available should any additional questions arise. We always tailor the preparation plan individually, because every situation and every patient is different.
