A thigh lift is an operation to remove excess lax skin and fat tissue from the inner surface of the thighs. It is an effective solution to a problem that cannot be corrected by diet or training - sagging thigh skin after weight loss or with age causes chafing, discomfort and complexes.

01
About the treatment

Thigh lift - what does the procedure involve?

A thigh lift is a surgical procedure consisting in removing excess lax skin and fat tissue from the inner side of the thighs. It is most often performed in patients after major weight loss or as a result of an age-related loss of skin elasticity. The aim of the procedure is to improve the thigh contour, reduce chafing and increase physical and aesthetic comfort.

Depending on the extent of the sagging, we use an incision hidden in the groin (smaller excesses, vertical lifting) or an incision along the inner side of the thigh (large excesses after weight reduction). We often combine the procedure with liposuction.

02
Indications

Indications for the procedure

Whether the procedure is advisable for you is ultimately decided by the doctor during the consultation.

  • Excess loose skin after a large drop in body weight
  • Laxity of the inner thigh skin (with age or after pregnancy)
  • Persistent chafing, discomfort when walking
  • Thigh asymmetry
  • An unsatisfactory result after liposuction alone or exercise
  • Aesthetic discomfort - difficulty choosing clothes and underwear
03

Contraindications

Uncompensated general diseases (e.g. diabetes, cardiovascular disease)
Significant obesity (prior weight reduction is recommended)
Coagulation disorders, skin infections
A tendency to hypertrophic scars (requires assessment by the surgeon)
Pregnancy and the breastfeeding period
Unrealistic expectations
04
Preparation

How to prepare for the procedure?

The procedure is always preceded by a qualification consultation with a plastic surgeon - we discuss expectations, examine the area to be operated on and establish an individual treatment plan. As standard, we order a full set of tests (blood count, coagulation, electrolytes, ECG for general anaesthesia) and, if necessary, additional specialist consultations.

  • Laboratory tests
  • Anaesthesiological consultation,
  • Stopping anticoagulant medications 7-10 days before the procedure
  • Avoiding alcohol and cigarette smoking for at least 2 weeks before
  • On the day of the operation: body hygiene, no creams or lotions

The thigh-lift procedure step by step

1Qualification and incision planningthe surgeon assesses the excess skin and marks the incision lines - in the groin or along the thigh - in a standing position.
2Anaesthesia generalthe procedure takes about 2-3 hours.
3Liposuction of the inner thighremoving excess fat tissue facilitates lifting and tightening the skin.
4Skin resection and liftingthe excess skin is excised, and the tissues are lifted and fixed so as to prevent the scar from descending.
5Layered suturing and compressionthe wounds are closed in layers; the patient puts on compression garments worn for about 6 weeks.
06
Recovery

Recovery and post-procedure recommendations

  • Wearing compression garments for a minimum of 6 weeks
  • Limiting physical activity for 4-6 weeks
  • No stretching of the thighs or sitting with widely spread legs for the first weeks
  • No sun exposure of the scars for at least 6 months
  • The scars should be massaged and appropriate products used - according to the surgeon’s recommendations (after 3-4 weeks)
  • A check-up after 10-14 days (suture removal), then after 1, 3, 6 and 12 months
07

Treatment effects

The result of a thigh lift is slimmer, firm thighs without chafing skin folds - an improvement both in the appearance in underwear and a swimsuit and in everyday comfort (an end to chafing and rashes). We assess the full effect after 3-6 months.

Possible complications and risks

Like any surgical procedure, this one also carries a certain risk - at Luna Clinic we minimise it through careful qualification, operating in operating-block conditions and the team’s experience. Possible complications include:

  • Haematoma or bleeding requiring drainage
  • Infection requiring antibiotic therapy
  • Temporary or rarely permanent sensory disturbances in the operated area
  • Hypertrophic or discoloured scars - minimised thanks to precise suturing technique
  • Asymmetry requiring correction
  • Longer-lasting swelling or bruising
  • An unsatisfactory aesthetic result requiring possible re-operation

Frequently asked questions

Is the procedure painful?

Thanks to general anaesthesia the patient feels no pain during the operation. After the procedure we use effective pain relief.

Will there be visible scars?

The scars are placed so as to be as inconspicuous as possible - in the groin or on the inner side of the thighs. Their appearance improves over time.

When can I return to work?

To office work after about 10-14 days, to physical work after 4-6 weeks (depending on the scope of the procedure).

How long do the compression garments have to be worn?

We recommend a minimum of 6 weeks - it helps reduce swelling and facilitates healing.

Can I walk normally after the operation?

Yes, but movement should be limited in the first days - especially sitting with widely spread legs.

Does the procedure remove fat from the thighs?

Yes, if needed we also perform liposuction in this area.

Is the result of a thigh lift permanent?

Yes, if the patient maintains a stable body weight.

When will I see the final result?

The swelling subsides gradually, and the final effect is visible after about 3-6 months.

Can I exercise after the procedure?

A return to physical activity should be consulted with the doctor - usually after 6 weeks.

Is the procedure only for women?

No - we also perform the procedure on men with excess skin after weight reduction.

Are the scars after a thigh lift visible?

We plan the scars in the groin or on the inner side of the thighs - in a standing position with the legs together they remain invisible. Over time they fade.

Can a thigh lift be combined with other procedures?

Yes - we often combine it with a body lift, arm lift or liposuction as part of comprehensive body contouring after weight loss.

What does the thigh lift involve?

Thigh lift is a procedure in the field of plastic surgery. At Luna Clinic, every treatment plan is created individually - we start with a thorough consultation and qualification, during which the doctor discusses expectations, assesses the starting situation and selects the scope and technique of the procedure. Thanks to this, the thigh lift is safe, predictable and tailored to the anatomy and real needs of the specific person. We focus on a natural rather than artificial effect - so that the result emphasises individual beauty and remains in harmony with the rest of the figure or facial features. You will find a full, detailed description of the method in the upper part of this page.

the thigh lift - who is it for? Indications and qualification

The best way to answer whether the thigh lift is advisable in your case is during a consultation. The doctor always decides on qualification after an examination - we take into account the state of health, expectations and the real possibilities of the given method. If the procedure is not needed or safe at the moment, we will say so directly and suggest a sensible alternative. Such an honest conversation is the basis of a good decision and satisfaction with the result - which is why we never persuade anyone into unnecessary procedures.

How does the procedure go?

The course is planned to take maximum care of your comfort and safety. We work in comfortable conditions that meet all standards, and an experienced team oversees the process. All recommendations - preparation, contraindications and post-procedure conduct - are discussed individually and also provided in writing, so that the thigh lift proceeds calmly, predictably and without surprises.

Effects and durability - the thigh lift before and after

The effects that the thigh lift provides are always assessed individually. A natural, harmonious refreshment of appearance or an improvement of proportions is the goal we strive for with every patient. “Before and after” transformations are best viewed in our results gallery - they show the real outcomes of our work. Remember that the durability and quality of the effect are also influenced by lifestyle, care and consistent adherence to post-procedure recommendations.

Recovery and post-procedure recommendations

Recovery goes most smoothly when you follow the recommendations closely. After the procedure you remain under the clinic’s care - in the first days, contact with a doctor is available, and we schedule follow-up visits until full healing and assessment of the effect. You receive clear instructions on care, activity and any supporting products in writing, so you know exactly what to expect at each stage of returning to form.

Safety, experience and trust

Safety is an absolute priority for us. Thigh lift is performed by Dr Aleksandra Łuniewska - a plastic surgery specialist, with care for safety and an individual approach to the patient. Careful qualification, work in appropriate conditions and the team’s experience allow us to minimise risk and achieve repeatable, aesthetic results. It matters to us that every person feels heard and well informed, which is why we present the real possibilities and limitations of the given method and choose the best solution together.

How to prepare for the procedure?

Good preparation translates directly into the course and the effect. Before the thigh lift we conduct a qualification consultation, order tests if necessary and discuss the recommendations in detail - including which agents, stimulants or activities to avoid in the days preceding the procedure. You receive all the guidance clearly and in writing, and our team remains available should any additional questions arise. We always tailor the preparation plan individually, because every situation and every patient is different.
