Neck lift
A neck lift is an operation that restores a smooth, taut neck contour and a distinct cervicomental angle. The procedure corrects lax skin, excess chin fat and separation of the platysma muscle - the cause of the characteristic vertical “bands” that appear with age.

Neck lift - what does the procedure involve?
A neck lift is a surgical procedure aimed at improving the appearance of the neck by removing excess skin, smoothing folds and tightening the muscles (platysma). The procedure reduces the “turkey neck” effect, skin laxity and horizontal wrinkles, restoring a clearer jawline and a younger neck appearance. Although often combined with a full facelift or mini lift, it can also be performed as a separate procedure.
The neck often betrays age faster than the face. Depending on the problem, we combine chin liposuction, platysma surgery (platysmaplasty) through a small incision under the chin and resection of excess skin through incisions hidden behind the ears. We often perform a neck lift together with a facelift.
Indications for the procedure
Whether the procedure is advisable for you is ultimately decided by the doctor during the consultation.
- Lax, excess neck skin (“turkey neck”)
- Horizontal wrinkles and folds
- Visible platysma muscle bands
- An indistinct jawline
- Ageing of the neck area disproportionate to the rest of the face
Contraindications
How to prepare for the procedure?
The procedure is always preceded by a qualification consultation with a plastic surgeon - we discuss expectations, examine the area to be operated on and establish an individual treatment plan. As standard, we order a full set of tests (blood count, coagulation, electrolytes, ECG for general anaesthesia) and, if necessary, additional specialist consultations.
- Consultation with a plastic surgeon for qualification, discussing expectations and the treatment plan
- Laboratory tests
- Stopping anticoagulant medications at least 14 days before the operation (after consulting a doctor)
- Avoiding alcohol and smoking for a minimum of 14 days before the procedure - for better healing
- Thorough facial-skin hygiene on the day of the procedure (no make-up, creams or lotions)
The neck-lift procedure step by step
Recovery and post-procedure recommendations
- Swelling and bruising usually persist for 2-3 weeks
- Wearing a dressing or a gentle compression band for about 1-2 weeks
- Avoiding intense physical activity for a minimum of 4 weeks
- No sun exposure of the neck for a minimum of 6 months
- Using scar-healing products according to the doctor’s recommendations
- Check-ups: about 1 month after the procedure, then after 3, 6 and 12 months
Treatment effects
The result of a neck lift is a smooth, taut neck, a sharp cervicomental angle and a clear jawline - the facial profile is rejuvenated by many years. A compression band worn for the first days supports modelling; we assess the full effect after 3-6 months and it lasts for many years.
Possible complications and risks
Like any surgical procedure, this one also carries a certain risk - at Luna Clinic we minimise it through careful qualification, operating in operating-block conditions and the team’s experience. Possible complications include:
- Haematoma or bleeding requiring drainage
- Infection requiring antibiotic therapy
- Temporary or rarely permanent sensory disturbances in the face or auricle
- Hypertrophic or discoloured scars - minimised thanks to precise suturing technique
- Asymmetry requiring correction
- Longer-lasting swelling or bruising
- An unsatisfactory aesthetic result requiring possible re-operation
Frequently asked questions
Does a neck lift always require a facelift?
No. Although we often combine it with a facelift for a full rejuvenation effect, a standalone neck lift can be performed in patients with a dominant problem in this area.
Is the procedure painful?
Anaesthesia (general or local) ensures comfort during the procedure. After the operation the pain is minor and well controlled with medication.
How long does a neck lift take?
Usually 1.5-2.5 hours, depending on the scope: chin liposuction, platysmaplasty and removal of excess skin.
Where will the scars be?
The scars are hidden behind the ears and possibly under the chin - over time they become barely visible.
When can I return to work?
To office work - after about 10-14 days, depending on the subsiding of the swelling.
Can it be done under local anaesthesia?
Yes, in some cases we perform a neck lift under local anaesthesia.
Is a compression band worn after the procedure?
Yes - an elastic band supporting the chin and neck is worn for 1-2 weeks (initially around the clock). It reduces swelling and stabilises the tissues in their new position.
Can the procedure be combined with others?
Yes - we most often combine a neck lift with a full facelift, mini lift, eyelid surgery or chin liposuction.
Can the neck age again?
Yes - the procedure does not stop ageing, but significantly reverses its visible effects.
Where do the vertical bands on the neck come from and does the procedure remove them?
They are the edges of the platysma muscle, which separates with age. Platysmaplasty - suturing the muscle in the midline - permanently eliminates them.
When will I see the final result?
The neck contour clears as the swelling subsides - clearly after 4-6 weeks, finally after 3-6 months.
How to prepare for the procedure?
A full set of tests and anaesthesiological qualification, stopping smoking for at least 4 weeks and blood-thinning medications after agreement with the doctor. You will receive a detailed list of recommendations at the consultation.

What does the neck lift involve?
Neck lift is a procedure in the field of plastic surgery. At Luna Clinic, every treatment plan is created individually - we start with a thorough consultation and qualification, during which the doctor discusses expectations, assesses the starting situation and selects the scope and technique of the procedure. Thanks to this, the neck lift is safe, predictable and tailored to the anatomy and real needs of the specific person. We focus on a natural rather than artificial effect - so that the result emphasises individual beauty and remains in harmony with the rest of the figure or facial features. You will find a full, detailed description of the method in the upper part of this page.
the neck lift - who is it for? Indications and qualification
The best way to answer whether the neck lift is advisable in your case is during a consultation. The doctor always decides on qualification after an examination - we take into account the state of health, expectations and the real possibilities of the given method. If the procedure is not needed or safe at the moment, we will say so directly and suggest a sensible alternative. Such an honest conversation is the basis of a good decision and satisfaction with the result - which is why we never persuade anyone into unnecessary procedures.
How does the procedure go?
The course is planned to take maximum care of your comfort and safety. We work in comfortable conditions that meet all standards, and an experienced team oversees the process. All recommendations - preparation, contraindications and post-procedure conduct - are discussed individually and also provided in writing, so that the neck lift proceeds calmly, predictably and without surprises.
Effects and durability - the neck lift before and after
The effects that the neck lift provides are always assessed individually. A natural, harmonious refreshment of appearance or an improvement of proportions is the goal we strive for with every patient. “Before and after” transformations are best viewed in our results gallery - they show the real outcomes of our work. Remember that the durability and quality of the effect are also influenced by lifestyle, care and consistent adherence to post-procedure recommendations.
Recovery and post-procedure recommendations
Recovery goes most smoothly when you follow the recommendations closely. After the procedure you remain under the clinic’s care - in the first days, contact with a doctor is available, and we schedule follow-up visits until full healing and assessment of the effect. You receive clear instructions on care, activity and any supporting products in writing, so you know exactly what to expect at each stage of returning to form.
Safety, experience and trust
Safety is an absolute priority for us. Neck lift is performed by Dr Aleksandra Łuniewska - a plastic surgery specialist, with care for safety and an individual approach to the patient. Careful qualification, work in appropriate conditions and the team’s experience allow us to minimise risk and achieve repeatable, aesthetic results. In the field of plastic surgery, not only technique matters, but also aesthetic sense and trust between patient and doctor - and that is exactly what we build Luna Clinic on every day.
Why Luna Clinic?
Luna Clinic is an intimate, boutique clinic where not only the result matters, but also comfort, discretion and a sense of safety. We carry out the neck lift with attention to every detail - from the first conversation, through the procedure itself, to post-procedure care. Patients choose us for the experience of our specialists, the individual approach and the natural, harmonious results. It matters to us that every person feels heard and well informed, which is why we present the real possibilities and limitations of the given method and choose the best solution together.
How to prepare for the procedure?
Good preparation translates directly into the course and the effect. Before the neck lift we conduct a qualification consultation, order tests if necessary and discuss the recommendations in detail - including which agents, stimulants or activities to avoid in the days preceding the procedure. You receive all the guidance clearly and in writing, and our team remains available should any additional questions arise. We always tailor the preparation plan individually, because every situation and every patient is different.
