Liposuction and waist contouring
Liposuction and waist contouring is a procedure of selectively removing fat tissue from the abdomen, waist, flanks and back to slim and feminise the torso contour. For transgender people (MtF) it is one of the pillars of body correction - a slim waist and an optical widening of the hips bring the proportions closer to typically feminine ones; of course we also perform the procedure on cis women.

Liposuction and waist contouring - na czym polega zabieg?
Liposuction with waist contouring is a surgical procedure whose aim is to feminise the torso contour by selectively removing fat tissue from the abdomen, waist, flanks and back.
For transgender people (MtF) the procedure is one of the pillars of body correction - it helps achieve a slim waist, a clearer curve and an optical widening of the hips, bringing the figure closer to typically feminine proportions.
The key is a strategy of emphasising the waist-to-hip ratio (WHR): we remove fat from the waist, flanks and lumbar area and, if needed, transfer it to the hips (lipofilling), enhancing the hourglass effect. We plan the contouring individually with respect to the patient’s bone structure.
Indications for the procedure
Whether the procedure is advisable for you is ultimately decided by the doctor during the consultation.
- A lack of waist definition despite hormone therapy
- A massive, straight “column”-type figure
- Uneven distribution of fat tissue (e.g. accumulation in the lumbosacral area)
- A desire for a feminine torso contour - especially in preparation for breast augmentation
- A complementary procedure after lipofilling, FFS or other feminising procedures
Contraindications
How to prepare for the procedure?
The procedure is always preceded by a qualification consultation with a plastic surgeon - we discuss expectations, examine the area to be operated on and establish an individual treatment plan. As standard, we order a full set of tests (blood count, coagulation, electrolytes, ECG for general anaesthesia) and, if necessary, additional specialist consultations.
- Surgical consultation and anaesthesiological qualification
- Laboratory tests
- Stopping anticoagulant medications, aspirin and supplements 7 days before the procedure
- On the day of the operation: no make-up, no lotions, clean skin
- No smoking for a minimum of 2 weeks before and after the procedure
- Stabilising body weight for at least 3 months before the planned procedure is recommended
The liposuction and waist contouring procedure step by step
Recovery and post-procedure recommendations
- For the first 5-7 days pain, tenderness and swelling are possible
- Wearing special compression garments for a minimum of 6 weeks - available at the clinic, individually fitted
- Avoiding intense physical activity for 4 weeks
- Return to office work after about 5-7 days
- Initial effects visible after about 3 weeks, the final effect after 3-6 months
- Check-ups: after 7 days, 1 month and 3 months
Treatment effects
The result of liposuction and waist contouring is a clearly defined, slim waist and a feminine, hourglass torso contour - visible after the swelling subsides (initial effect about 3 weeks, final 3-6 months). The removed fat cells do not grow back, so the result is permanent with a stable body weight.
Possible complications and risks
Like any surgical procedure, this one also carries a certain risk - at Luna Clinic we minimise it through careful qualification, operating in operating-block conditions and the team’s experience. Possible complications include:
- Haematoma or bleeding requiring drainage
- Infection requiring antibiotic therapy
- Temporary or rarely permanent sensory disturbances in the operated area
- Hypertrophic or discoloured scars - minimised thanks to precise suturing technique
- Asymmetry requiring correction
- Longer-lasting swelling or bruising
- An unsatisfactory aesthetic result requiring possible re-operation
Frequently asked questions
Is the procedure only for transgender people?
No. Waist liposuction is a universal procedure, but we adapt the way of contouring and the scope of the procedure to the needs of transgender patients.
Will there be a lot of pain?
Discomfort comparable to severe muscle soreness - especially for 2-3 days after the procedure. Painkillers control it effectively.
Are the effects permanent?
Yes - provided the patient does not gain significant weight. The fat cells removed during the procedure do not regenerate.
When can I return to the gym?
We recommend a minimum of 4 weeks off intense exercise and 6 weeks without training involving the abdomen and back.
Are there scars?
The micro-incisions (about 3-4 mm) are placed in hidden locations - they usually become invisible after a few months.
Can I combine this procedure with another?
Yes - e.g. with lipofilling, breast augmentation, a tummy tuck or a body lift. It all depends on the scope of the operation and general health.
Will I need a second procedure?
Usually not. In cases of large asymmetries or a need for a greater effect, repeating the liposuction after about 6-12 months is possible.
Do I have to be on hormones?
It is not a condition for the procedure, but we recommend stabilised hormone therapy as part of a fuller feminisation of the figure.
Will it help with dysphoria?
For many people - yes. Improved body proportions, greater congruence with gender identity and psychological comfort are a common side effect of this type of procedure.
How long is the compression garment worn?
A minimum of 6 weeks - individually selected by us and measured at the clinic.
Does the procedure require prior hormone therapy?
It is not a condition, but stabilised HRT promotes a feminine redistribution of fat tissue and a fuller effect of figure feminisation - we recommend stable therapy for a minimum of 3 months.
Can waist contouring be combined with breast augmentation?
Yes - it is a common combination in a figure-feminisation plan; the possibility of simultaneous performance is decided by the scope and the patient’s health.

What does liposuction and waist contouring involve?
Liposuction and waist contouring is a procedure in the field of plastic surgery. At Luna Clinic, every treatment plan is created individually - we start with a thorough consultation and qualification, during which the doctor discusses expectations, assesses the starting situation and selects the scope and technique of the procedure. Thanks to this, liposuction and waist contouring is safe, predictable and tailored to the anatomy and real needs of the specific person. We focus on a natural rather than artificial effect - so that the result emphasises individual beauty and remains in harmony with the rest of the figure or facial features. You will find a full, detailed description of the method in the upper part of this page.
liposuction and waist contouring - who is it for? Indications and qualification
The best way to answer whether liposuction and waist contouring is advisable in your case is during a consultation. The doctor always decides on qualification after an examination - we take into account the state of health, expectations and the real possibilities of the given method. If the procedure is not needed or safe at the moment, we will say so directly and suggest a sensible alternative. Such an honest conversation is the basis of a good decision and satisfaction with the result - which is why we never persuade anyone into unnecessary procedures.
How does the procedure go?
The course is planned to take maximum care of your comfort and safety. We work in comfortable conditions that meet all standards, and an experienced team oversees the process. All recommendations - preparation, contraindications and post-procedure conduct - are discussed individually and also provided in writing, so that liposuction and waist contouring proceeds calmly, predictably and without surprises.
Effects and durability - liposuction and waist contouring before and after
The effects that liposuction and waist contouring provides are always assessed individually. A natural, harmonious refreshment of appearance or an improvement of proportions is the goal we strive for with every patient. “Before and after” transformations are best viewed in our results gallery - they show the real outcomes of our work. Remember that the durability and quality of the effect are also influenced by lifestyle, care and consistent adherence to post-procedure recommendations.
Recovery and post-procedure recommendations
Recovery goes most smoothly when you follow the recommendations closely. After the procedure you remain under the clinic’s care - in the first days, contact with a doctor is available, and we schedule follow-up visits until full healing and assessment of the effect. You receive clear instructions on care, activity and any supporting products in writing, so you know exactly what to expect at each stage of returning to form.
