Breast lift - what does the procedure involve?
A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure to raise and firm the breasts without changing their volume (or with the optional addition of an implant). At Luna Clinic we perform it in patients whose breast gland has sagged as a result of pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss or natural ageing processes. The procedure restores a youthful shape to the breasts, improves their proportions and raises the nipples to the correct height.
We match the lift technique (periareolar, vertical or “anchor”) to the degree of breast sagging (ptosis). In patients with a loss of upper-pole volume we combine the mastopexy with an implant or lipofilling - the so-called lift with augmentation.

How to prepare for the procedure?

As standard, we order a full set of tests (blood count, coagulation, electrolytes, ECG for general anaesthesia) and, if necessary, additional specialist consultations.

Recovery and post-procedure recommendations
- Wearing a post-operative bra for at least 6 weeks (day and night)
- Limiting physical activity and arm movements for 4-6 weeks
- No lifting, sunbathing or use of the sauna for at least 2 months
- For several weeks the following are possible: pain, swelling, numbness - the symptoms subside gradually
- The sutures are dissolvable - they do not require removal
- After 4-6 weeks, introduction of scar massage and products that aid their healing
- Check-ups: after 7 days, 1 month, 3, 6 and 12 months

The result of a breast lift is a raised, firm and symmetrical bust with the nipples in a natural position. The breasts regain their proportions and a youthful appearance - without an artificial effect. The shape stabilises within 3-6 months, and the scars gradually fade.

Will I be able to breastfeed after a breast lift?
In most cases - yes. The surgeon tries to preserve the patency of the milk ducts, but it is worth planning the procedure after completing childbearing.
Will the breasts be smaller after a lift?
Usually not. Only excess skin is removed. If the patient wants a reduction in volume, the lift can be combined with a reduction.
Can a lift be performed with an implant?
Yes. In cases of significant loss of gland volume, the lift can be combined with augmentation.
When can I return to work?
To office work - usually after 7-10 days. To physical work - after about 4-6 weeks.
How long will I have to wear the post-operative bra?
A minimum of 6 weeks - around the clock, including at night.
Does a lift remove stretch marks?
No - but in some cases the removed piece of skin may include an area of stretch marks.
Will there be scars after a lift?

How long does recovery take?

Temporarily - numbness or hypersensitivity of the nipples may occur, usually subsiding after a few weeks.
Breast lift or augmentation - how do I know what I need?
If the nipples are located below the inframammary fold, an implant alone will not solve the problem - a lift is necessary (possibly with an implant). We will assess this at the consultation with a simple examination.
How long does the effect of mastopexy last?
Many years - depending on skin quality, weight fluctuations and pregnancies. A stable body weight and good sports bras during activity help maintain the result.
