Knee replacement consists in replacing the damaged joint surfaces with an implant (endoprosthesis). The operation removes the source of pain resulting from advanced degenerative disease and restores the correct range of motion. Course of the procedure
The procedure takes about 1.5-2 hours and is performed under regional anaesthesia (most often spinal).
The surgeon makes an incision in the front of the knee, removes the damaged joint surfaces and implants an endoprosthesis - partial or total, depending on the advancement of the changes.
Drains and a compression dressing are applied.
The patient stays in the clinic for about 3-5 days.
Rehabilitation usually begins on the first day after the operation.
