Advanced hip treatment by endoprosthetic replacement. Luna Clinic offers professional care and modern surgical solutions.

01

What does the procedure involve?

Hip replacement is an operation to replace the damaged joint with an artificial prosthesis (endoprosthesis) that replaces the worn joint surfaces. It removes chronic pain and restores fitness in advanced degenerative hip disease, allowing a return to activity without pain.

The most common indications for the procedure:

Advanced degenerative disease of the hip joint
Hip pain not subsiding despite conservative treatment
Limited joint range of motion and stiffness
Post-traumatic changes - necrosis of the femoral head, previous fractures
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and other inflammatory diseases
Active systemic or local infections
Severe uncompensated internal diseases (e.g. heart failure, advanced diabetes)
Poor bone quality (e.g. advanced osteoporosis without the possibility of stabilising the implant)
Extreme obesity (requires weight reduction before the operation)
Respiratory failure or neurological diseases preventing rehabilitation
02
Preparation

Preparation for the procedure:

Orthopaedic consultation oraz kwalifikacja do operacji

Laboratory tests

Hip X-ray and possibly 3D CT to select the type of prosthesis

Anaesthesiological consultation

Stopping anticoagulant and NSAID medications 7-10 days before the procedure

Dental prophylaxis - treating all inflammatory foci is recommended

03
Course of the procedure

Course of the procedure

The procedure is performed under regional (epidural) or general anaesthesia and takes about 60-90 minutes.

The operator makes a surgical incision in the hip area, removes the damaged head of the femur and a fragment of the acetabulum, and implants an appropriately selected prosthesis (cemented or cementless).

Drains and dressings are applied.

The patient usually stays in the clinic for 3-5 days, starting rehabilitation as early as the first day after the operation.

04
Recovery

Recovery and post-procedure recommendations:

Rehabilitation from day 1 - mobilisation, range-of-motion and muscle-strength exercises

Walking with a walker or crutches for 4-6 weeks

Limiting rotational movements and hip flexion > 90 degrees for about 2 months

No sitting on low chairs or crossing the legs

Regular orthopedic check-ups - after 2, 6 and 12 weeks

Return to office work possible after about 4-6 weeks

Return to physical activity (e.g. nordic walking, stationary bike) after 3 months

Infection of the wound or prosthesis

Bleeding, haematomas in the operated area

Deep vein thrombosis - pharmacological prophylaxis is used

Dislocation of the endoprosthesis - especially in the first weeks

Limb-length discrepancy (rare - correctable with an orthopedic insole)

Temporary or permanent weakening of muscle strength

Frequently asked questions

What does hip replacement involve?

The operation consists in replacing the damaged hip joint with an implant - an acetabular cup and a stem with a head. It removes the source of pain and restores mobility and gait efficiency.

When is a hip endoprosthesis needed?

In advanced degenerative disease, necrosis of the femoral head, post-traumatic and rheumatoid changes - when pain limits daily life despite conservative treatment.

How long does hip endoprosthesis implantation surgery take?

Usually 1-2 hours, under spinal anaesthesia. The stay in the clinic lasts a few days, and mobilisation usually takes place on the first day after the procedure.

When will I start walking after hip replacement?

The first steps with a walker or crutches are usually taken on the first day after the operation. For the first weeks you walk with the support of crutches, gradually increasing the load.

How long does recovery take after a hip endoprosthesis?

Basic fitness is regained in 6-8 weeks, full fitness - up to 3-6 months. The pace depends on rehabilitation, age and condition before the operation.

How long does a hip endoprosthesis last?

Modern implants usually last 15-25 years. Durability is supported by: a correct body weight, activity without high-load sports and regular orthopedic check-ups.

Can you play sports after a hip endoprosthesis?

Yes - walks, cycling, swimming or nordic walking are recommended. Sports involving running, jumping and a risk of falling are discouraged; the details are determined by the orthopedist after rehabilitation is completed.

Which movements should be avoided after hip surgery?

In the first weeks: deep sitting, crossing the legs and strong internal rotation - according to the instructions you will receive after the procedure. This prevents dislocation of the endoprosthesis.

How to prepare for joint replacement?

Orthopedic consultation with X-ray, a full set of tests, anaesthesiological qualification, treatment of infection foci (teeth, urinary tract) and preparation of the home - removing thresholds, handles, raising the toilet seat.

Does hip surgery hurt?

The operation itself is painless thanks to anaesthesia, and we effectively control post-operative pain with medication. Most patients already feel the degenerative pain subside in the first days.

What are the possible complications of hip replacement?

Rare: infection, thrombosis, dislocation of the endoprosthesis, limb-length discrepancy, loosening of the implant over the years. Perioperative prophylaxis and rehabilitation minimise the risk.

How much does hip replacement cost in Wrocław?

The price includes the implant, the operation, hospitalisation and post-operative care - it depends on the type of endoprosthesis. We present an exact quote after qualification; approximate prices in the Luna Clinic price list.

What does hip replacement involve?

Hip replacement is a procedure in the field of orthopedics. At Luna Clinic, every treatment plan is created individually - we start with a thorough consultation and qualification, during which the doctor discusses expectations, assesses the starting situation and selects the scope and technique of the procedure. Thanks to this, hip replacement is safe, predictable and tailored to the anatomy and real needs of the specific person. We focus on a natural rather than artificial effect - so that the result emphasises individual beauty and remains in harmony with the rest of the figure or facial features. You will find a full, detailed description of the method in the upper part of this page.

hip replacement - who is it for? Indications and qualification

The best way to answer whether hip replacement is advisable in your case is during a consultation. The doctor always decides on qualification after an examination - we take into account the state of health, expectations and the real possibilities of the given method. If the procedure is not needed or safe at the moment, we will say so directly and suggest a sensible alternative. Such an honest conversation is the basis of a good decision and satisfaction with the result - which is why we never persuade anyone into unnecessary procedures.

How does the procedure go?

The course is planned to take maximum care of your comfort and safety. We work in comfortable conditions that meet all standards, and an experienced team oversees the process. All recommendations - preparation, contraindications and post-procedure conduct - are discussed individually and also provided in writing, so that hip replacement proceeds calmly, predictably and without surprises.

Effects and durability - hip replacement before and after

The effects that hip replacement provides are always assessed individually. A natural, harmonious refreshment of appearance or an improvement of proportions is the goal we strive for with every patient. “Before and after” transformations are best viewed in our results gallery - they show the real outcomes of our work. Remember that the durability and quality of the effect are also influenced by lifestyle, care and consistent adherence to post-procedure recommendations.

Recovery and post-procedure recommendations

Recovery goes most smoothly when you follow the recommendations closely. After the procedure you remain under the clinic’s care - in the first days, contact with a doctor is available, and we schedule follow-up visits until full healing and assessment of the effect. You receive clear instructions on care, activity and any supporting products in writing, so you know exactly what to expect at each stage of returning to form.

Safety, experience and trust

Safety is an absolute priority for us. Hip replacement is performed by Krzysztof Ciechan, MD, PhD - a specialist in orthopedics and traumatology, with care for safety and an individual approach to the patient. Careful qualification, work in appropriate conditions and the team’s experience allow us to minimise risk and achieve repeatable, aesthetic results. In the field of orthopedics, not only technique matters, but also aesthetic sense and trust between patient and doctor - and that is exactly what we build Luna Clinic on every day.

Why Luna Clinic?

Luna Clinic is an intimate, boutique clinic where not only the result matters, but also comfort, discretion and a sense of safety. We carry out hip replacement with attention to every detail - from the first conversation, through the procedure itself, to post-procedure care. Patients choose us for the experience of our specialists, the individual approach and the natural, harmonious results. It matters to us that every person feels heard and well informed, which is why we present the real possibilities and limitations of the given method and choose the best solution together.

How to prepare for the procedure?

Good preparation translates directly into the course and the effect. Before hip replacement we conduct a qualification consultation, order tests if necessary and discuss the recommendations in detail - including which agents, stimulants or activities to avoid in the days preceding the procedure. You receive all the guidance clearly and in writing, and our team remains available should any additional questions arise. We always tailor the preparation plan individually, because every situation and every patient is different.
