Liposuction - what does the procedure involve?
Liposuction is a surgical body-contouring procedure that removes excess fat tissue from selected areas of the body by suction. At Luna Clinic we perform liposuction with the greatest precision - we know it is not a way to lose weight but an effective method of improving proportions where diet and exercise fail. The procedure allows slimmer, more harmonious shapes to be achieved - e.g. in the area of the abdomen, hips, thighs, knees or back.
The removed fat cells do not grow back, which is why the effect of liposuction is permanent with a stable body weight. The harvested tissue can also be used for lipofilling - a transfer to areas requiring volume.
Indications for the procedure
Whether the procedure is advisable for you is ultimately decided by the doctor during the consultation.
- Local accumulation of fat tissue, resistant to diet and physical activity
- Fat folds in the area of the abdomen, flanks, waist, thighs, knees, back or arms
- Body contouring in patients after pregnancy or major weight loss
- Body asymmetry caused by uneven fat distribution
- A complement to other plastic-surgery procedures (e.g. tummy tuck, thigh lift)
Contraindications
How to prepare for the procedure?
The procedure is always preceded by a qualification consultation with a plastic surgeon - we discuss expectations, examine the area to be operated on and establish an individual treatment plan. As standard, we order a full set of tests (blood count, coagulation, electrolytes, ECG for general anaesthesia) and, if necessary, additional specialist consultations.
- Consultation with a plastic surgeon for qualification, discussing expectations and the treatment plan
- Laboratory tests
- Stopping anticoagulant medications at least 14 days before the operation (after consulting a doctor)
- Avoiding alcohol and cigarette smoking for at least 14 days before the procedure - for better healing
- Thorough skin hygiene on the day of the procedure (no make-up, creams or lotions)
The liposuction procedure step by step
Recovery and post-procedure recommendations
- Swelling and bruising are natural and diminish within 2-4 weeks
- Sleeping with the head elevated is recommended for the first few days
- Dressings and sutures cared for according to the doctor’s recommendations
- Sutures are usually removed after 7-14 days
- Avoiding intense physical exertion and bending over for a minimum of 4-6 weeks
- No sunbathing or use of a solarium for a minimum of 6 months - SPF 50 protection is necessary
- After full healing, scar massages and products supporting their maturation may be introduced - according to the doctor’s recommendation
- Check-ups: about 1 month after the procedure, then after 3, 6 and 12 months
Treatment effects
The result of liposuction is a slimmer, proportional figure with a clearer waist and contour. The first results are visible after the swelling subsides (3-4 weeks), and the final effect after 3-6 months, when the skin tightens over the new contour.
Possible complications and risks
Like any surgical procedure, this one also carries a certain risk - at Luna Clinic we minimise it through careful qualification, operating in operating-block conditions and the team’s experience. Possible complications include:
- Haematoma, infection, prolonged healing
- Irregularities, asymmetries or fibrosis
- Skin discolouration
- Excess loose skin (especially with large-volume suction)
- Rarely - thrombosis, fat embolism (in the case of improper post-procedure management)
Frequently asked questions
Can I lose weight through liposuction?
No - liposuction is not a weight-loss method. It is a body-contouring procedure.
How much fat can be removed in a single operation?
The safe volume is a maximum of 4-5 litres. A larger scope requires spreading the procedures out.
Can the fat come back?
In the suctioned area - no. But with a large weight gain, fat can accumulate in other areas.
Will the skin tighten after liposuction?
It depends on skin elasticity. In some cases a combination with a skin lift is necessary.
When can I return to work?
To office work - after 5-7 days. To physical work - after about 4 weeks.
How long do I have to wear compression garments?
A minimum of 6 weeks - around the clock. Then you can switch to gentler compression.
Are there scars?
The incisions are 3-5 mm and placed in inconspicuous locations - after a few months they are almost invisible.
Can liposuction be combined with another procedure?
Yes - e.g. with a tummy tuck, thigh lift or lipofilling. The final decision rests with the surgeon.
Czy zabieg boli?
No - it is performed under general anaesthesia. After the operation the discomfort is controlled with painkillers.
When can I exercise?
After a minimum of 6 weeks and after obtaining the doctor’s consent.
How much fat can be safely removed?
The safe one-time volume is usually up to 3-5 litres, depending on the patient’s body weight and health - larger scopes are divided into stages.
Can the fat come back after liposuction?
The removed cells do not grow back, but the remaining ones can enlarge with weight gain - which is why the key to a lasting effect is a stable body weight.
Does liposuction remove cellulite and stretch marks?
No - liposuction reduces the volume of fat tissue but does not treat cellulite or stretch marks; these problems require other procedures.

What does liposuction involve?
Liposuction is a procedure in the field of plastic surgery. At Luna Clinic, every treatment plan is created individually - we start with a thorough consultation and qualification, during which the doctor discusses expectations, assesses the starting situation and selects the scope and technique of the procedure. Thanks to this, liposuction is safe, predictable and tailored to the anatomy and real needs of the specific person. We focus on a natural rather than artificial effect - so that the result emphasises individual beauty and remains in harmony with the rest of the figure or facial features. You will find a full, detailed description of the method in the upper part of this page.
liposuction - who is it for? Indications and qualification
The best way to answer whether liposuction is advisable in your case is during a consultation. The doctor always decides on qualification after an examination - we take into account the state of health, expectations and the real possibilities of the given method. If the procedure is not needed or safe at the moment, we will say so directly and suggest a sensible alternative. Such an honest conversation is the basis of a good decision and satisfaction with the result - which is why we never persuade anyone into unnecessary procedures.
How does the procedure go?
The course is planned to take maximum care of your comfort and safety. We work in comfortable conditions that meet all standards, and an experienced team oversees the process. All recommendations - preparation, contraindications and post-procedure conduct - are discussed individually and also provided in writing, so that liposuction proceeds calmly, predictably and without surprises.
Effects and durability - liposuction before and after
The effects that liposuction provides are always assessed individually. A natural, harmonious refreshment of appearance or an improvement of proportions is the goal we strive for with every patient. “Before and after” transformations are best viewed in our results gallery - they show the real outcomes of our work. Remember that the durability and quality of the effect are also influenced by lifestyle, care and consistent adherence to post-procedure recommendations.
Recovery and post-procedure recommendations
Recovery goes most smoothly when you follow the recommendations closely. After the procedure you remain under the clinic’s care - in the first days, contact with a doctor is available, and we schedule follow-up visits until full healing and assessment of the effect. You receive clear instructions on care, activity and any supporting products in writing, so you know exactly what to expect at each stage of returning to form.
Safety, experience and trust
Safety is an absolute priority for us. Liposuction is performed by Dr Aleksandra Łuniewska - a plastic surgery specialist, with care for safety and an individual approach to the patient. Careful qualification, work in appropriate conditions and the team’s experience allow us to minimise risk and achieve repeatable, aesthetic results. In the field of plastic surgery, not only technique matters, but also aesthetic sense and trust between patient and doctor - and that is exactly what we build Luna Clinic on every day.
Why Luna Clinic?
Luna Clinic is an intimate, boutique clinic where not only the result matters, but also comfort, discretion and a sense of safety. We carry out liposuction with attention to every detail - from the first conversation, through the procedure itself, to post-procedure care. Patients choose us for the experience of our specialists, the individual approach and the natural, harmonious results. It matters to us that every person feels heard and well informed, which is why we present the real possibilities and limitations of the given method and choose the best solution together.
How to prepare for the procedure?
Good preparation translates directly into the course and the effect. Before liposuction we conduct a qualification consultation, order tests if necessary and discuss the recommendations in detail - including which agents, stimulants or activities to avoid in the days preceding the procedure. You receive all the guidance clearly and in writing, and our team remains available should any additional questions arise. We always tailor the preparation plan individually, because every situation and every patient is different.
