01
Indications

Indications

Athlete’s foot often manifests as persistent itching and redness of the skin between the toes. These lesions are an indication to start antifungal treatment in order to prevent the infection from spreading further to other areas of the feet.

Visible cracks, callus formation or flaking of the skin on the soles of the feet indicate an advanced fungal infection. Treatment, both topical and systemic, is necessary to reduce the symptoms and restore a healthy appearance to the skin.

Maceration of the skin between the toes, manifested by moist, white patches, is a typical indication for treating interdigital mycosis. Such lesions require quick dermatological intervention to avoid bacterial superinfections.

A persistent, unpleasant foot odour, often accompanying a fungal infection, is an indication for a dermatological consultation. Treatment allows the cause of the problem to be eliminated and the comfort of everyday functioning to be restored.

Frequently asked questions

How to recognise athlete’s foot?

Typical symptoms are itching, redness and flaking of the skin between the toes, cracks, an unpleasant odour and white, macerated epidermis. The diagnosis is confirmed by a dermatologist, sometimes with a mycological test.

Can athlete’s foot go away on its own?

No - untreated it usually spreads, affecting the soles, nails and other areas of the body, and also increases the risk of bacterial superinfections. The earlier treatment is started, the shorter it is.

How is athlete’s foot treated?

For limited lesions we use antifungal medications topically (creams, ointments), and for extensive or recurrent forms - oral therapy. The treatment is always selected by the doctor after assessing the lesions.

How long does treatment of athlete’s foot take?

Topical treatment usually lasts 2-6 weeks; oral therapy can be longer. It is important not to interrupt the treatment after the symptoms subside - stopping the medications too early is the main cause of recurrences.

Is athlete’s foot contagious?

Yes - you can get infected at the swimming pool, sauna, gym, a hotel bathroom, or through shared towels and footwear. During treatment you should use a separate towel and wash socks at a minimum of 60°C.

Can you go to the swimming pool during treatment?

Until the active lesions subside, it is better to avoid the swimming pool and sauna - both because of the risk of infecting others and because the moist environment favours fungi.

Why does athlete's foot recur?

Most often through an unfinished course of treatment, undisinfected footwear, a moist environment (sweat, tight shoes) and untreated nail fungus, which is a reservoir of infection.

Is athlete’s foot treated together with nail fungus?

Yes - if the nails are also affected, the therapy must cover both areas, otherwise the infection will recur. Nail treatment takes longer, usually several months.

How to disinfect shoes and prevent re-infection?

Use antifungal sprays or powders for footwear, replace the insoles, wear breathable shoes and cotton socks, and after bathing thoroughly dry the spaces between the toes.

Kiedy potrzebne jest badanie mykologiczne?

When the picture of the lesions is atypical, treatment brings no improvement or a long oral therapy is planned. The test confirms the presence of fungus and allows an effective drug to be selected.

Do home remedies for fungus work?

Soaking the feet in vinegar or baking soda does not remove the infection and delays proper treatment. Only antifungal medications are effective - home methods can only support hygiene.

When to see a dermatologist for athlete’s foot?

If the symptoms persist despite a week of self-treatment with pharmacy products, the lesions are painful, weeping or involve the nails - book a dermatological consultation at Luna Clinic in Wrocław.

06
Contraindications

Contraindications

A consultation has no significant contraindications. Any limitations concern selected treatment methods (e.g. laser vs. a tan, isotretinoin vs. pregnancy) - we will discuss them once a diagnosis is established.

07
Preparation

How to prepare?

It is worth bringing to the visit:

  • a list of medications and supplements taken
  • existing documentation and test results
  • a list of questions - nothing should slip your mind
  • for skin lesions: do not cover them with make-up or irritate them before the visit
08
Course of the procedure

How does the procedure go?

We plan the treatment after a thorough skin assessment (with dermatoscopy if needed).

09
Recovery

Recovery and recommendations

Diagnostic visits require no recovery. For treatments (e.g. laser) you will receive brief recommendations: sun protection, gentle care and avoiding high temperatures for a few days.

10

Effects - when and for how long?

What does athlete’s foot treatment involve?

Athlete’s foot is a procedure in the field of dermatology. At Luna Clinic, every treatment plan is created individually - we start with a thorough consultation and qualification, during which the doctor discusses expectations, assesses the starting situation and selects the scope and technique of the procedure. Thanks to this, athlete’s foot treatment is safe, predictable and tailored to the anatomy and real needs of the specific person. We focus on a natural rather than artificial effect - so that the result emphasises individual beauty and remains in harmony with the rest of the figure or facial features. You will find a full, detailed description of the method in the upper part of this page.

athlete’s foot treatment - who is it for? Indications and qualification

The best way to answer whether athlete’s foot treatment is advisable in your case is during a consultation. The doctor always decides on qualification after an examination - we take into account the state of health, expectations and the real possibilities of the given method. If the procedure is not needed or safe at the moment, we will say so directly and suggest a sensible alternative. Such an honest conversation is the basis of a good decision and satisfaction with the result - which is why we never persuade anyone into unnecessary procedures.

How does the procedure go?

The course is planned to take maximum care of your comfort and safety. We work in comfortable conditions that meet all standards, and an experienced team oversees the process. All recommendations - preparation, contraindications and post-procedure conduct - are discussed individually and also provided in writing, so that athlete’s foot treatment proceeds calmly, predictably and without surprises.

Effects and durability - athlete’s foot treatment before and after

The effects that athlete’s foot treatment provides are always assessed individually. A natural, harmonious refreshment of appearance or an improvement of proportions is the goal we strive for with every patient. “Before and after” transformations are best viewed in our results gallery - they show the real outcomes of our work. Remember that the durability and quality of the effect are also influenced by lifestyle, care and consistent adherence to post-procedure recommendations.

Recovery and post-procedure recommendations

Recovery goes most smoothly when you follow the recommendations closely. After the procedure you remain under the clinic’s care - in the first days, contact with a doctor is available, and we schedule follow-up visits until full healing and assessment of the effect. You receive clear instructions on care, activity and any supporting products in writing, so you know exactly what to expect at each stage of returning to form.

Safety, experience and trust

Safety is an absolute priority for us. Athlete’s foot is performed by Katarzyna Cygan, MD, PhD - a dermatologist and venereologist, with care for safety and an individual approach to the patient. Careful qualification, work in appropriate conditions and the team’s experience allow us to minimise risk and achieve repeatable, aesthetic results. In the field of dermatology, not only technique matters, but also aesthetic sense and trust between patient and doctor - and that is exactly what we build Luna Clinic on every day.

Why Luna Clinic?

Luna Clinic is an intimate, boutique clinic where not only the result matters, but also comfort, discretion and a sense of safety. We carry out athlete’s foot treatment with attention to every detail - from the first conversation, through the procedure itself, to post-procedure care. Patients choose us for the experience of our specialists, the individual approach and the natural, harmonious results. It matters to us that every person feels heard and well informed, which is why we present the real possibilities and limitations of the given method and choose the best solution together.

How to prepare for the procedure?

Good preparation translates directly into the course and the effect. Before athlete’s foot treatment we conduct a qualification consultation, order tests if necessary and discuss the recommendations in detail - including which agents, stimulants or activities to avoid in the days preceding the procedure. You receive all the guidance clearly and in writing, and our team remains available should any additional questions arise. We always tailor the preparation plan individually, because every situation and every patient is different.
